Frequently Asked Questions

No. Hurricane protection depends on the type of policy selected. Some property policies exclude catastrophic perils such as hurricanes, windstorms, floods and sea surges. Review your policy to confirm that these risks are included.

Hurricane and flood damage may be covered under Comprehensive Motor Insurance that includes hurricane protection. Third-Party Insurance does not cover storm-related damage to your own vehicle. Always check your policy schedule to confirm your coverage.

Coverage should be arranged before a storm threatens Belize. Once the first hurricane warning flag is issued, RF&G cannot provide new property coverage or increase existing coverage. Review your insurance early and avoid waiting until a storm is approaching.

If your home, business or belongings are insured for less than their current replacement value, your property may be considered underinsured. The Average Clause may then apply, reducing the amount payable for a claim. Review your sums insured regularly, particularly after renovations or major purchases.

Prioritize your safety and follow official instructions. When it is safe:

  • Take clear photographs and videos of the damage.
  • Make reasonable temporary repairs to prevent further damage.
  • Keep receipts for emergency repairs and purchases.
  • Prepare a list of damaged items.
  • Contact RF&G as soon as possible and submit the required claim form and supporting documents.

Policy coverage remains subject to the applicable terms, conditions, limits, deductibles and exclusions. The wording above aligns with RF&G’s Property Insurance and Motor Insurance information. Customers should follow official updates from NEMO Belize.
